Late Three-Pointer Sinks Biola in 66-63 Loss at San Diego Christian

Box Score EL CAJON, Calif. --- A three-pointer by Chardonnay Shula with 31 seconds left broke a late tie and capped a late comeback by San Diego Christian as Biola suffered a 66-63 loss in GSAC play on Tuesday night at the Ryan Athletic Center.

The Eagles fall back to .500 on the season at 9-9 and are 0-3 in GSAC play. The Hawks move to 9-10 and to 1-2 in the conference.

Adijat Adams continued her strong play as of late, scoring 27 points and adding nine rebounds in the game. Aubree Mittel added 14 points thanks to 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range while Becca Devere added 10 points.

Biola got off to a slow start in the game, falling behind 13-6 just six minutes in. The Eagles pulled it back to a five-point deficit at the 9:34 mark but back-to-back three-pointers by the Hawks quickly stretched the lead to 11 at 25-14. five minutes later, the lead was up to 13 at 34-23.

Adams hit a layup followed by a three-pointer from Amy Freet made it an eight-point game. After a Hawks basket, Adams scored a pair of buckets to make the halftime deficit six at 36-30.

The Eagles opened the second half strong, hitting 4-for-8 for the field to close the gap to one at 43-42 with 14:33 to play. But again, the Hawks answered with back-to-back three-pointers and added a fast break layup to stretch the lead back to nine at 51-42 with 13:37 remaining.

Biola was unable to get closer than one until the 2:47 mark when a three-pointer by Devere gave the Eagles their first lead since 3-1. Biola held the lead until the Hawks hit a pair of free throws with 1:23 left to tie the game up at 63-63. The Eagles would turn the ball over on their next possession and Shula drained a three-pointer with 31 seconds left to break the tie and give SDCC the lead.

Biola's final possession came down to a long three-point attempt which missed as the horn sounded.

San Diego Christian drained 10 three-pointers in the game and shot 46 percent from the field, also going 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. Biola was 8-for-20 from three-point range and missed just one free throw in the game.

The Eagles' biggest undoing was turnovers as 17 miscues led to 25 San Diego Christian points.

The Hawks received a game-high 28 points from Heather Serven, who also went 6-for-6 on three-point shots.

Biola returns to action on Saturday with another huge GSAC clash, hosting No. 8 The Master's College (16-0, 3-0 GSAC) at 5:30 pm at Chase Gymnasium.
