Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Christine Douglas recored 26 kills and Chelsee Arnitz added 17 kills and hit .519 as Biola recorded a pair of sweeps over La Sierra and MidAmerica Nazarene on Friday night at the Vanguard Volleyball Tournament.

The Eagles, who have now won 12-straight matches, improve to 13-1 on the season as they open GSAC play next week. Biola defeated La Sierra 25-12, 26-24, 25-22 to open the day, then closed it out with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 victory over MidAmerica Nazarene.

Douglas led Biola with 26 kills, recording 17 in the three-set win over La Sierra. Arnitz then led the way in the second match, recording 10 kills in 14 swings for a .714 attack percentage. She added four blocks. Nicolette Mather also had 17 kills overall including 10 in the first match.

Against La Sierra, the Eagles got off to a quick start, scoring 10-straight points to break open the first set and cruised to a 25-12 win.

However, the second set was a lot closer as the Golden Eagles came out fighting. The set was close through the first half until a pair of aces gave La Sierra a 14-12 lead. Biola responded with six-straight points to take back the lead and looked to be ready to cruise leading 22-17. But the Eagles suddenly went ice cold and allowed La Sierra a 7-1 run with all of the Golden Eagles' points coming off Biola errors.

That gave La Sierra a 24-23 lead. However, Amy Weststeyn broke the run with a kill to knot it at 24-24, then Nicolette Mather recorded a big solo block to give the Eagles set point. A La Sierra hitting error awarded the set to Biola along with a 2-0 lead in the match.

Biola again opened strong in the third set, opening a 14-6 lead in the early going. However, once again the Eagles began committing unforced errors and allowed La Sierra back into the match. The Golden Eagles would close the gap to two with a 10-4 run. The score stayed within two or three the rest of the way with La Sierra eventually pulling to within one at 23-22. But again the Eagles held strong, pulling out a win on a kill by Douglas and an ace by Arnitz.

In the MidAmerica Nazarene match, Biola got off to an ice-cold start as the Pioneers opened a commanding 9-2 lead. The Eagles slowly pulled back into the match, but still trailed by five at 17-12. However, the momentum shifted in a big way with a kill by Weststeyn which started a 13-1 Biola run to close out the set and win 25-18.

After an even start to the second set, Biola used a 6-1 run to take a 14-10 lead midway through. The Eagles held a three-point lead at 19-16, then again had a nice run to close out the set, scoring six of the final eight points to win 25-18.

Biola left nothing to chance in the final set, opening up the set with a 12-4 lead and not looking back.

The Eagles, who rank second in the NAIA in attack percentage at .328, posted a .303 mark on the day, despite struggling through the second and third sets of the first match with its two lowest marks of the season (.188 and .167 respectively).

Biola returns to action next week, opening GSAC play next Saturday (Sept. 15) at The Master's College at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles then return home on Tuesday, Sept. 18, to host Vanguard University in a conference match at Chase Gymnasium.
