Biola Swept by No. 2 Cal State San Marcos

CeCe Luster
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola did something few teams shave been able to do against No. 2 Cal State San Marcos, scoring six runs in a doubleheader against the Cougars. However, the Eagles weren't able to be one of the few to beat San Marcos, falling 9-2 and 13-4 in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

Biola falls to 15-23 with the loss while Cal State San Marcos improves to 36-3 on the season.

The Eagles got off to a great start in the second game, opening with a four-run first inning. Brooke Madrid opened the frame with a single followed by a walk to Chelsea Limm. CeCe Luster then loaded the bases with a single to right and Natalie Parker drove home a pair with a double to left.

Two outs later, Kayna Lamb added another run with a double to left-center and Sarah Stromwall drove home the fourth run of the frame with a single to short.

It was just the fifth time all season a team had scored four runs against Cal State San Marcos and gave the Eagles the early lead.

But things quickly turned sour for the Eagles as the Cougars scored two runs in the top of the second and added eight runs to make it a 10-4 game. San Marcos would add three more in the sixth to end the game early via the mercy rule.

In the first game, the Cougars took the early lead, taking advantage of an error to score three unearned runs in the first inning. Theresa Houle made the Eagles pay for the error with a three-run home run to center to make it a 3-0 game.

The game stayed close with Cal State San Marcos adding a run in the fourth, but the Eagles were having a tough time breaking through, managing just three hits through the first four innings.

However, the Eagles were able to get on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two out, Limm reached base with a signle up the middle, and Madrid struck out but reached on a wild pitch. Luster then drove home a pair of runs with a hard single to right to cut the lead to three at 5-3.

However, the Cougars would answer back with a run in the top of the sixth with a solo home run, then pulled away with two home runs in the seventh to account for the final four runs.

Biola takes a break for Easter and returns to action on Saturday, April 14, traveling to face No. 1 Concordia University in a GSAC contest in Irvine beginning at 12:00 p.m.
