LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola had a rough Tuesday against No. 3 Concordia University, dropping a GSAC doubleheader by scores ot 12-2 and 8-1 at Freedom Field in La Mirada.
Biola falls to 11-17 on the season with the losses and to 1-5 in GSAC play while Concordia improves to 40-2 and stays a perfect 6-0 in the GSAC.
Concordia got off to a fast start in the first game, roaring out to a 12-0 lead after five innings. Biola struggled to get a hit off the Concordia starter Katie Cotta, who continued her dominance of the NAIA with 12 strikeouts in five innings, giving her 141 strikeouts in 69-1/3 innings this season.
However, Biola was able to get the final blow as freshman
Ashley Spadt broke up the no-hitter with a two-run home run to left to account for the final runs of the game.
In the second game, sophomore pitcher
CeCe Luster was solid through the first five innings of the game. She allowed just two runs on four hits--both runs coming on solo home runs.
Meanwhile, Biola got on the board first with a run in the first inning as
Natalie Parker doubled home Luster with the game's first run.
However, Biola still trailed 2-1 heading into the sixth when Concordia broke the game open with three in the sixth inning, then added two in the seventh to pull out the win.
Biola returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Hamline University from Minnesota in a non-conference gmae at 2:00 p.m.
