Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Despite a solid first half, a 25-2 run over the first six minutes of the second half proved to be too much for Biola to overcome in a 78-47 loss at No. 6 Westmont College on Tuesday night.
The Eagles see their two-game winning streak come to an end as they fall to 14-9 on the season and to 6-7 in GSAC play. The Warriors rebound from their first GSAC loss to improve to 22-2 on the season and to 12-1 in the conference.
Emily Drews led Biola with 16 points, however she was the only player in double-figures for the Eagles. Adijat Adams added eight points and a steal while Charrise Reece contributed six points, five assists and three steals.
Biola came out strong in the game and got off to quick start, overcoming an early deficit to tie the game at 13-13 near the midway point of the first half. Westmont would stretch the lead to 10 with 5:20 to go and still led by double-digits with just under four minutes to play before the half.
Drews led the Eagles right back into the game with a pair of three-pointers and a mid-range jumper to make it a six-point game, though Westmont would score the final bucket of the half and take a 35-27 lead to the break.
The second half proved to be all Warriors, though. Westmont opened the second-half with a three-pointer followed quickly by layup from Reece. However, that would prove to be it for a while for Biola while the Warriors kept the pedal down. Westmont would go on a long 22-0 run over the next six minutes to take a commanding 60-29 lead with 13:26 to play.
Biola would end the scoring drought with a jumper by Elias and finished the half shooting well. However, it was not enough for the Eagles who could get no closer than 26 the rest of the way.
The 78 points allowed was quite out of character for Biola, which had been holding opponents to under 50 points per contest. In fact, it was the most points allowed by the Eagles this season with the next highest being 66 to Lewis-Clark State in early November.
The Warriors shot nearly 55% in the game including hitting 65.2% from the field in the second half. Westmont also drained all four of its three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes and hit 16-of-18 free throws overall.
Biola opened the game by connecting on 48% in the first half, but could hit just 28.6% in the second half.
The Eagles still remain tied for fifth place in the conference despite the loss and could move into a tie for fourth with a win in their next game. On Saturday, Biola hosts Point Loma Nazarene, which is currently a game up in the GSAC standings. The game is slated to top off at 5:30 p.m.
