SAN DIEGO --- Biola continued to put pressure on a the top teams in the GSAC, giving No. 7 Point Loma Nazarene a scare on Saturday before falling 7-2 in a GSAC contest at the PLNU Courts in San Diego.
The Eagles drop to 1-5 overall and to 0-4 in conference play while the Sea Lions improve to 3-2, 2-1 in the GSAC.
Biola opened with a strong showing in doubles, nearly sweeping Point Loma.
Isaiah Pekary and
Anthony Sena continued their dominance at No. 3 doubles, cruising to an 8-1 win to give the Eagles the first match and a 1-0 lead. The other two doubles matches were tightly contested with
Weston Leopold and
Brent Worthington falling by a score of 8-6 at No. 1.
David Mossman and
Thomas Coibion also nearly pulled off the upset, but fell 9-7.
Things changed quickly in singles play as the Sea Lions were able to win the first five of six singles matches with the lone Biola win coming at No. 6 singles where Sena overcame a first-set loss, took the second set 6-4 and then won the tiebreaker 10-3.
Biola returns to the courts on Tuesday, traveling to face Concordia University in a GSAC match at 2:00 p.m.
