Adijat Adams and
Chelsea Hill each scored career-highs with Adams scoring 24 and Hill contributing 22 points and 12 rebounds as Biola picked up a big 74-62 GSAC road win over Fresno Pacific University on Tuesday night.
The Eagles improve to 16-9 on the season and remain in a fourth-place tie in the GSAC with a conference mark of 8-7. The Sunbirds drop to 13-14 and to 5-10 in conference play.
Hill picked up her second-straight double-double and third of the season with her performance, hitting 9-of-17 from the field and pulling down seven of her 12 rebounds on the offensive end. Adams was 11-of-21 from the field and added eight rebounds, two assists and the team's lone block.
The game was close throughout with Biola taking the early lead at 15-7 with 8:35 go go in the half. The Sunbirds closed back to within three quickly and the scored stayed around that point until the Eagles close on a 7-0 run to take a 33-22 lead at the half.
In the second half, Biola would go up by 13 on a layup by Adams just over one minute into the half. However, the Sunbirds did not go away and kept the deficit around 10 much of the rest of the half.
The Eagles made one final push late in the game, though. After Fresno Pacific cut the lead to eight at with 6:43 to play, Biola responded with a 14-6 run over the next four minutes to double its lead and cruise to the win.
Lauren Gustafson added 11 points, three assists, two steals and four rebounds for the Eagles.
Keri Stephanoff had 20 points and 13 rebounds to pace Fresno Pacific with Jenay Herring adding 11 points.
Biola held a slight 46-41 rebounding edge, but held a 23-18 advantage on the offensive glass, leading to a 23-17 edge on second-chance points.
Biola stays in a tie with San Diego Christian College for fourth place in the conference with three games to go including a big showdown against the Hawks on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Biola. The Eagles are one game ahead of Point Loma Nazarene which sits in sixth place. Biola can finish no better than fourth as the three teams above are at least four games up with three to play.
The Eagles play two more road games this week, traveling to Orange to face Chapman University in a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Biola then plays its final road game of the regular season at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at Hope International University.
