Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola closed out the game on a 27-10 run to pick up a big GSAC victory on Saturday night, defeating Point Loma Nazarene University 64-55 at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles improve to 15-9 overall and to 7-7 in GSAC play with their third win in their last four games. The Sea Lions drop to 16-10 and into a tie with Biola at 7-7 in the conference.
Adijat Adams picked up her fourth double-double of the season with a 16-point, 11-rebound performance before fouling out late in the contest. She was one of four Biola starters to score in double figures and one of two with a double double. Chelsea Hill her second double-double of the year with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Charrise Reece had 13 points, five assists and four steals while Lauren Gustafson scored 12 points.
After taking and early lead in the first five minutes, Biola fell behind after struggling from the field in the first half. In the second half, the Sea Lions would stretch their lead up to 10 at 40-30 with just under 10 minutes to play.
Point Loma still maintained a lead of eight with 6:24 left when Biola found its stride. The Eagles would go on a 19-2 scoring run over the next five minutes to turn the eight-point deficit into a nine-point lead with 59 seconds to play. Gustafson started the run with a three-pointer and hit another one minute later to pull Biola to within two. Adams hit a layup to tie the game and Reece gave the Eagles their first lead since early in the first with a free throw with 2:47 remaining.
The Eagles' defense stepped up big time over the final eight minutes of the game, allowing just one field goal--a basket with nine seconds left in the game. Biola held Pt. Loma to just 31.5% shooting in the game and just 1-for-6 over the final eight minutes.
Brianna Colon led all scorers with 19 points for Point Loma Nazarene. Nyla Bailey added 16 points and eight rebounds with Crissa Jackson scoring 10.
Biola improves to 14-1 when the offense scores better than 53 points in a game and kept its opposing scoring average under 53 at 52.4, a number that ranks third in the NAIA.
The Eagles head back on the road for three games next week, starting with a trip north to face Fresno Pacific University at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Biola then faces Chapman University in a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday before head back cross-town to face Hope International University in a GSAC game at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
