Biola Closes Out Tournament with Win Over Concordia (Ore.)

REDDING, Calif. --- Biola closed out the Simpson University Softball Tournament on Saturday with just one win in three games, but battled through all three, putting together its best games of the year including an 8-6 win over Concordia (Ore.) and a tough 2-1 loss in eight innings against No. 1 Oregon Tech.

The Eagles, who wrap up the long trip with a 2-6 record, nearly pulled off an impressive upset behind solid pitching by freshman Sarah Enriquez. Fellow freshman Brooke Madrid contributed the lone RBI in the game with a double. However, the Owls were able to pick up the win with a run in the eighth.

Biola did get a win to ride out of town happy with, beating Concordia University (Ore.) in the final game of the tournament. Biola jumped out to a 7-1 lead early on thanks to home runs by CeCe Luster and Leslie Larson. Enriquez, pitching in her fourth game in three days, struck out four and showed her fatigue late as Concordia rallied for five runs in the sixth. But the Eagles would hold on for the win.

Sandwiched between was a game against the College of Idaho, which the Eagles lost 12-8. COI jumped on the board early with five runs in the first, but the Eagles answered back with eight runs to take the lead. Luster had another home run and drove in three, but College of Idaho would pull away late and win 12-8.

Biola opens the home portion of its schedule next, hosting La Sierra University on Friday, February 24 at 12:30 p.m. The Eagles then turn right around and host a big doubleheader against Northwest Christian University on Saturday at Noon.
