Eagles Use Big Second-Half to Cruise Past Chapman, 74-55

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola used a big second-half run to break the game open en route to a 74-55 victory over Chapman University in a non-conference contest on Monday evening at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles head to the Christmas break with a 6-5 record while dropping the Panthers to 7-2 on the season.

Chelsea Hill led all scorers with 15 points, adding six rebounds in the winning effort. Angel Dorn added 12 points with Aubree Mittel also scoring 12 off the bench.

Biola used a 30-13 run over a 10-minute span in the second half to pull away from Chapman, which had hung close to that point. After leading by seven at the half, the Eagles quickly saw the lead dwindle to three with a quick 5-1 run by the Panthers.

The score would remain close with a basket by Andre Villanueva making it 33-30 with 16:35 to go in the game. But the Eagles came alive starting with a three-pointer by Jamie Elias which sparked the 30-13 run culminating in a 63-43 Biola lead with 6:52 to play.

The Eagles would stretch the lead to as many as 23 on a pair of free throws by Hill with 4:59 to go before settling for the 74-55 win.

Biola got off to a quick start in the game, scoring the first seven points of the contest capped by a three-pointer from Becca DeVere. The Eagles led 11-5 a few minutes later but saw the lead disappear thanks to a 7-0 run by the Panthers, who ooh their only lead of the game at 12-11 with 10:56 left in the half.

Biola quickly responded with an 8-2 run highlighted by a three-pointer from Angel Dorn to give Biola a 19-14 lead. The lead would drop back to two with 5:37 left, but the Eagles closed the half on a on a 9-4 run and led 30-23 at halftime.

Biola was playing without a pair of post players: Adijat Adams and Hailey Nickel, who were resting with minor injuries. The lack of size helped Chapman hold an 18-12 edge in offensive rebounds though Biola led 42-37 in overall rebounds.

Elizabeth Munger took advantage of her first start of the season by scoring eight points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds, adding a block and a steal.

Biola takes a well-deserved break for Christmas, returning at the end of the month to host the Holiday Classic. The Eagles will be joined by Vanguard University, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and the University of Victoria (B.C.) in the tournament on Dec. 28-29 at Chase Gymnasium. Biola plays the final game each day at 7:30 p.m., facing Victoria on Friday and Olivet Nazarene on Saturday.
