Biola Sweeps San Diego Christian on Senior Night

Mather paces Eagles with 12 kills

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Seniors Nicolette Mather had 12 kills and Christine Douglas added eight kills as No. 4 Biola cruised to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-15 win over San Diego Christian in a GSAC match on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles picked up their third-straight win to improve to 26-3 and to 12-1 in GSAC play while the Hawks fell to 5-18 on the season and to 3-10 in conference.

Mather and Douglas paced Biola to a solid win as the senior's ruled their night. Mather had 12 kills and just one error in 28 swings, adding two blocks and three digs. Mather's kill total gives her 984 kills, moving her to within 16 of being the 12th player in prgram history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau. 

Douglas added eight kills in 16 swings with no errors and also had three blocks. Fellow senior Rachel Buckley contributed six kills in 12 swings with no errors and had a match-high four aces while Justine Schoneveld had 32 assists, one block, one kill and one ace. Schoneveld also came closer to a big milestone, finishing the day with 1,981 assists--just 19 short of 2,000.

Biola got off to a quick start in the match, opening on a 9-3 run in the match. The Eagles kept the pressure on, recording a side out in all 11 opportunities to cruise to a 25-11 win.

In the second Biola again jumped out to an early lead at 13-3. Biola led by as amny as 12 at 18-6 before San Diego Christian fought back a bit, and closed the gap a bit, but the Eagles were able to hold on and win 25-13.

The final set saw the Hawks their first lead of the match at 4-3, but the Eagles went on a long 14-4 run to a take a commanding lead and hold on for the victory.

The Eagles posted a .429 attack percentage--the fourth-best mark of the season--and added five blocks. 

Biola closes out the GSAC schedule with a huge match on Saturday, traveling to Irvine to face No. 1 Concordia University for the GSAC title. Concordia, which narrowly survived in a five-set thriller at The Master's on Tuesday night, can win the title outright with a win, but Biola can share the crown with a win on Saturday.
