Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola scored a trio of goals from three different players en route to a 3-0 win over Hope International University in a GSAC Tournament Opening Round match on Tuesday night at Al Barbour Field.

The Eagles--the No. 3 seed in the GSAC Tournament--improve to 11-6-1 on the season with their fifth-straight win and advance to face No. 2 seed Westmont in a semifinal match on Friday. The Royals end their season with a 7-11-1 record after making their first GSAC Tournament appearance in program history.

Biola continued its impressive late-season run with its strong performance on Tuesday night, outshooting Hope 25-9 en route to the win. 

"Ultimately our goal today was to get past the first round and we finally did that," said Head Coach Todd Elkins. "It didn't come right away, we had to play the full 90 to get the win. Scoring first and making sure you don't give up that lead is crucial for us. I was proud of the girls effort and not letting the emotions of the moments get to us.

Biola got on the board first with a goal in the first half on a wild scramble in front of the Hope goal. Brittany Barr cracked an initial shot from close range which was cleared off the line by a Hope defender. The ball bounced right back to the feet of Stephanie Cubias who kicked it in from just a few yards out.  The goal gave Biola a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.

Despite the large number of shots in the first half, the one goal would be it for the first 45 minutes. 

Things got off to a rocky start in the second half when Hope's Cindy Cisneros was fouled and tumbled hard to the ground just over five minutes in. After being down for a number of minutes, it was determined that she would need to receive immediate medical attention and the game was stopped while an ambulance was called. Cisneros was secured and transported to a local hospital in good spirits. 

After the delay, the game got back underway and Biola got another goal as Chrissy King headed home a corner by Victoria Dalla Zanna to make it a 2-0 game in the 54th minute.

The Eagles would cap the scoring in the 80th minute off a blast from Michelle Andre. Andre received a pass back from Chrissy King then sent a long blast from 30 yards out to give Biola a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore goalkeeper Briana Williams, who has won the last two GSAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, recorded her seventh shutout of the season, making three saves in the contest. Hope netminder Sofia Pacino was solid in goal, making nine saves including six in the first half.

Biola's win was its 11th of the season, the most for the Eagles since winning 16 matches in 2004. It's just the seventh time Biola has won 10 or more games in a season in the program's 21-year history.  

The Eagles now have just two days to prepare for a showdown against No. 2 seed Westmont in Santa Barbara at 2:00 pm on Friday. Biola was defeated 2-0 by the Warriors when the two teams met at Westmont earlier this year.

"It's going to be a tough road match up there," said Elkins. "But I don't think we played that well against them last time, so if we can put together a better performance against them we can give them a run for their money."
