Amy Weststeyn Named NAIA National Volleyball Player of the Week

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sophomore middle blocker Amy Weststeyn has been named the NAIA National Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of October 15-21 after leading No. 4 Biola to a pair of victories over the last week. She earned Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors as well.

Weststeyn, a 6-3 sophomore from Visalia, recording 24 kills with just one error in 39 swings for an impressive .590 attack percentage as Biola swept former GSAC foe Point Loma Nazarene and No. 8-ranked The Master's College.

In a 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-23) victory over former GSAC foe and current NCAA Division II Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), Weststeyn was nearly perfect, as she recorded 14 kills on 18 swings with no errors. She also added five digs and a season-high three aces.

Weststeyn led Biola to a sweep over No. 8 The Master's (Calif.) four days later. She collected 10 more kills, six blocks, including two solo, and a pair of digs. In two games, Weststeyn recorded 24 kills on 39 attacks--a hitting percentage of .590--eight blocks, seven digs and four aces.

Weststeyn continues to lead the NAIA in attack percentage with a .455 mark and ranks 8th in the GSAC in kills per set with 3.10.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday night for the start of a busy week, traveling to Costa Mesa to take on No. 23 Vanguard at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles then host Hope International University on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. before welcoming in No. 1 Texas-Brownsville on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
