Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Behind goals by
Alex Kincade and
Dylan Wingrove, No. 19 Biola defeated its first ranked opponent of the season with a solid 2-0 win over No. 24 La Sierra University in a non-conference match in Riverside on Thursday night.
The Eagles improve to 5-1-0 on the season while dropping the Golden Eagles to 4-2-0.
Two-time defending GSAC Defensive Player of the Week
Aaron Fenlason picked up his second shutout of the season, recording two saves in the contest.
Kincade, a freshman forward from Vacaville, helped Biola get on the board early with a goal in the 17th minute. He connected on a pass from senior
Marco Ruvalcaba and volleyed it into the back of the net.
Near the end of the first half, La Sierra's Shane Shelton--brother of Biola senior
Cody Shelton--received a red card for a dangerous high kick and the Golden Eagles had to battle down to just 10 men. However, after the half, La Sierra came out playing more structured and created a few chances at the disadvantage.
But Biola was able to find the back of the net for a much-needed insurance goal in the 62nd minute as
Daniel Chew fired a shot off the keeper and right to Wingrove who tapped it in easily to make it 2-0.
Biola held a 17-5 edge in shot in the contest with Ruvalcaba taking four and putting three on frame.
The Eagles return home for the first time in two weeks this Saturday, hosting Menlo College (Calif.) in a non-conference match at 3:00 p.m.
