LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola is hosting its first-ever volleyball tournament and it features a stacked field of some of the finest teams in the NAIA. The 2011 Biola University/Holiday Inn Summer Slam runs Friday and Saturday at Chase Gymnasium.

Nine teams are participating in the summer slam including five ranked in the NAIA Top 25. Biola headlines the field, ranked No. 5 in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 and holding a 3-1 overall recording coming in. The Eagles are one of three GSAC teams in the field.

No. 7 Lewis-Clark State and No. 10 College of Idaho come to Southern California from the Gem State to participate in the Slam and both are opponents for Biola during the weekend.

Rounding out the ranked teams in the field are No. 14 Southern Oregon--fresh off its upset win over No. 1 Fresno Pacific last week--and No. 16 Bellevue University (Neb.).

Joining the ranked teams are GSAC members Westmont College and Vanguard University along with William Jessup University and first-year program Cal State San Marcos. 

Tickets for the tournament are $7 per day or $10 for a tournament pass. Live video and stats will also be available free of charge throught the tournament page.
