LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola used a late 14-2 run to take control of the game in the final minutes en route to a hard-fought 60-52 win over Wayland Baptist University (Texas) in a non-conference game on Monday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles head to the Thanksgiving break with a record of 5-1 while the Flying Queens fall to 2-4 on the season and end their swing through California with three losses.

Charisse Reece led Biola with 15 points, four assists and four rebounds, hitting 9-of-13 from the free throw line--a place where both teams often found themselves.

The two teams combined to shoot 58 free throws in the contest with Biola connecting on 22-of-32 and Wayland Baptist shooting 18-of-26 from the line.

The Eagles trailed through much of the second half despite the fact that the Flying Queens did not hit a field goal until a three-pointer with 12:38 left in the half. That was the first of seven-straight shots hit by Wayland Baptist over the next six minutes with four coming from three-point range.

The last three-pointer gave the Flying Queens a 43-39 lead with 6:!7 to go. However, Biola came alive and used a 14-2 run over the next five minutes to take its largest of the game to that point at 55-45 with 1:19 to play. A three-pointer by CeCe Williams on the next WBU possession made it a five-point game but the Flying Queens would get no closer as BIola hit 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch for the win.

Biola started out by scoring four quick points in the first minutes of the game, but went cold over the next four minutes as Wayland too a 9-4 lead. Biola rallied back and tied the score a few points later and held a slight lead at 16-15 with 5:00 to go. But the Flying Queens used an 8-2 run to take a 23-18 lead with 2:54 remaining in the first half and led by five at the break.

Wayland scored 13 of its 24 first-half points from the free throw line while Biola shot 22.6 percent from the field and went to the line just eight times, making five. However, things changed in the second half as the Eagles hit 17-of-24 from the line while the Flying Queens went to the charity stripe just seven times, making five.

Biola did play solid defense in the game, holding Wayland Baptist to just 52 points on 14-of-36 shooting (38.9%). The Eagles also forced 27 turnovers, turning them into 23 points. Biola again won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding the Flying Queens 39-30 including a 21-7 edge in offensive rebounds.

Adijat Adams finished the game with eight points and two rebounds, paling just 20 minute, playing four in the first half after receiving two quick fouls. Emily Drews had eight points and six steals, hitting a big three-pointer in Biola's run at the end of the game.

Wayland Baptist's Alex Williams had 13 points and four blocks before fouling out with Erika Raymond contributing 12 points in the losing effort.

Biola takes a long break for Thanksgiving, returning to action on Saturday, December 3, hosting Vanguard University in its GSAC opener. The game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
