LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola senior Joy Talcott, junior Christine Douglas and sophomore Emily Weingartner have been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District 8 college division first-team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier this week.

The trio have been recognized for their contributions both on the field and in the classroom, making up three of the 10 members of the college division first-team, which is made up of NAIA, Canadian and junior colleges. District 8 encompasses Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Alaska and the 13 provinces and territories in Canada. They were three of seven recognized from the GSAC.

Talcott, a senior from San Clemente, posted a 3.94 GPA in her pursuit towards a degree in math and has been named to the Biola Dean's List in each of her six semesters so far. Her contributions on the court have been highly regarded as well as she has provided solid defense for the Eagles this season. Talcott, who has appeared in 32 of 34 matches this year, had 250 digs (2.60 per set) and has committed just 10 reception errors in 260 chances for a team-best .962 percentage. She also has 12 kills and 11 aces on the year.

Douglas, a junior from Cypress, has a 3.51 GPA in English and has also been named to the Dean's list in three of four semesters since transferring to Biola from Concordia after her freshman year. Douglas is also one of the top players in the GSAC, leading the team with 418 kills (3.43 per set) and adding 79 blocks including 18 solo (0.65 per set). Douglas matches a season-high with 20 kills in her last match, a five-set win over No. 11 Fresno Pacific--Biola's first win in Fresno since 1997.

Weingartner, a sophomore from Arvada, Colo., has a perfect 4.00 GPA in Kinesiology after her first full year at Biola. In addition, she is recognized as one of the top liberos in the conference, recording 462 digs (4.09 per set) and has 24 aces and 13 assists so far this year. Weingartner has committed 25 reception errors in 602 chances for a .957 percentage.

To be nominated for all-district consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and has spent at least one year at the school.

As members of the district's first-team, the trio is now eligible to earn CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America honors. Six Biola athletes have ever earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, the last was Natasha Miller who earned third-team honors last year. Three of those six have been volleyball players. The 2011 Volleyball Academic All-American team is scheduled to be announced on Monday, December 12.
