SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Biola suffered its third-straight five-set loss on Saturday night falling 15-25, 25-19, 18-25, 27-25, 15-9 to Westmont College in a GSAC match at Murchison Gymnasium in Santa Barbara.

The Eagles, who were ranked No. 12 in the latest NAIA national rankings, drops to 15-7 and to 3-3 in the conference. The Warriors improve to 14-7 and to 3-3 in GSAC play.

Christine Douglas led the way for Biola with 19 kills, the only Biola player to reach double-figures in kills in the match.

The match was another rough one for the Eagles, who again dominated the first set of the match, but ultimately could not hold on for the win. Trailing 11-10 in the first, Biola rattled off a 14-4 run to take control of the match and cruise to the 25-15 win in the first set.

But Westmont came back out fighting and opened the set with a 10-3 lead. BIola fought back and closed to within one point at 16-15 only to see the Warriors rattle off six-straight points to take a commanding 22-15 lead. Westmont exchanged points the rest of the way to win 25-19 and even the match at 1-1.

Biola came on again in the third and opening a 7-3 lead in the early going. The Eagles would slowly stretch the lead to nine at 23-14 and took a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 win.

The match got interesting in the fourth set as the teams battled back and forth throughout. After each team held an early lead, the teams would seesaw the rest of the way until Westmont used a short run to take a 20-17 lead. The Warriors would stretch the lead to 24-20 but the Eagles would rally again, fighting off four set points to tie the match at 24-24. Two points later, Westmont recorded back-to-back kills to take the fourth set 27-25.

In the fifth, the Warriors led from start to finish, using a four-point run to turn a 7-6 lead into a commanding 11-6 lead. From there, Westmont exchanged points to pull off the upset victory.

Madison Serrano led the Warriors with 18 kills while Tessa Martin added 15 kills.

The loss was Biola's first against Westmont since the 2002 season and the first in Santa Barbara since 2001. The Eagles had won 16-straight matches against the Warriors.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday with another tough match, hosting No. 10 Point Loma Nazarene University in a GSAC battle at 7:00 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
