LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior forwards
Jessilyn Conicelli and
Jennifer French each scored 22 points to lead Biola to a 79-61 win over San Diego Christian College in a GSAC game in La Mirada on Saturday night.
The Eagles improve to 12-3 and move to 4-2 in GSAC play. The Hawks fall to 6-8 and to 1-5 in the conference.
Conicelli had yet another strong game, recording her 10th double-double of the season and her fourth in as many games. She finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds before fouling out late in the contest. Overall she was 10-of-19 from the field and had 10 of her rebounds on the offensive glass.
French also had an impressive performance, recording 22 points, reaching double-figures in scoring for the ninth-straight game. It was also the third time this season French has tallied 20 or more points in a game.
The Eagles had trouble taking care of the ball through much of the contest, committing 29 turnovers in the contest. However, that was offset by 45 percent shooting from the field.
Biola struggled from the field early in the game but, but used an 8-0 run to go up by nine at 16-7 at the 11:47 mark. The Eagles would extend the lead to as many as 16 and held that margin at the half, up 37-21.
In the second half, Biola would not relinquish its double-digit lead, though the Hawks closed the gap a bit late in the contest. San Diego Christian used a six-point run to narrow the lead to 12 at 65-53 with 4:17 to go. However, French drained a long three one minute later to stretch is back up to 15 and the Eagles would not look back.
Senior center Christina Barclay recorded her third double-double of the season with a 12-points, 11-rebound effort. She was 6-of-11 from the field and matched her season high with five blocks.
Melissa Villalobos led the Hawks with 16 points while Brittany Robinson and Juanita Lewis each added 11.
Biola had 53 rebounds including 21 on the offensive glass while limiting San Diego Christian to just 33. The Eagles used those offensive rebounds to score 13 second-chance points and out-scored the Hawks 38-26 in the paint.
Biola returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Fresno Pacific in a GSAC contest beginning at 5:30 p.m.
