SAN DIEGO --- Biola held its own against the No. 2 team in the country, splitting a pair of 1-0 games against Point Loma Nazarene in a GSAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles move to 17-13 overall and to 7-7 in GSAC play while the Sea Lions drop to 19-5, 9-5 in conference play.

Biola received a pair of stellar pitching performances on the afternoon as Kristin Larson earned the victory in a game-two shutout while Lyndsie Roberts suffering a tough loss in the opener.

Larson was impressive in game two, allowing just four hits and keeping the Sea Lions scoreless through seven innings.

Biola got the only run it would need in the third thanks to a pair of costly PLNU errors. Jillian Storm opened the inning with an infield hit complicated by a throwing error to move her to second. After a successful sacrifice, Storm came around to score on another infield error to make it 1-0.

Point Loma had its best chance to get back into the game in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with one out. But after an infield out, Jessica Tieszen drove a shot to centerfield which looked guaranteed to drive home at least two. However, Biola centerfielder Brittany Bury made a spectacular diving catch to preserve the shutout.

Larson would then go on to retire the Sea Lions in order in the seventh for the victory.

Game one proved to be scoreless through the first six innings, though both teams had numerous chances to get on the board before that. In the first, Biola got the leadoff hitter on as Bury singled to left. After a pair of fielder's choices retired the lead runner, Krista Johnson followed with a single to right to get one in scoring position. But a strikeout ended the threat without a run being scored.

Biola would get two more hits, one each in the second and fourth innings, but could not get anything else after that.

Point Loma finally broke through with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh. The Sea Lions would load the bases with no outs. However, the Eagles got the first out at the plate on an infield groundout. But Cassie Monnahan sent a deep fly into center which Jill Schaefer with the winning run.

Though the Eagles got just eight hits on the day, Bury and Storm each recorded two, one in each game.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (March 30) to take on Hope International University in a GSAC doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Craig Park in Fullerton.
