BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Freshman center
Adijat Adams picked up her first collegiate double-double with a 14-point, 12-rebound effort to lead Biola to a 72-43 victory over La Sierra University in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 5-1 on the season while dropping the Golden Eagles to 3-9.
Adams had a career night in just the sixth game of her career, scoring 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding 12 rebounds including five on the offensive glass. Junior guard
Emily Drews added 15 points with three assists and three steals in 19 minutes.
The game was a bit of a sloppy one for the Eagles who struggled in the opening half. Biola opened with a 10-1 run, holding La Sierra without a field goal through the first four minutes of the contest. However, despite leading by double-digits most of the half, the Eagles were plagued by turnovers and could never pull away.
Biola would commit 12 turnovers in the opening period and allow La Sierra nine offensive rebounds, allowing the visitors to stay close.
In the second half, the Eagles would again get off to a hot start, using a nine-point run to take a 22-point lead at 47-25 with 13:36 to go in the game. However, La Sierra hung round and closed the gap to 14 just three minutes later but could get no closer. The Golden Eagles would again close to 16 with just under five minutes to play, but Biola responded with a 15-2 run to close out the game.
Biola, which ranks in the top 20 in the NAIA in scoring defense, allowed just 43 points, the fewest by an opponent this season. The Eagles held the Golden Eagles to 24.6 percent shooting. Natalia Hawthorne had the best night for La Sierra, scoring 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting, adding three steals and three assists.
Biola opens GSAC next week, hosting Westmont College on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 5:30 p.m.
