Biola Earns At-Large NAIA Tournament Berth and First-Round Bye

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University has earned an at-large berth to the 2010 NAIA Volleyball National Championship Tournament on Nov. 30 - Dec. 5 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. In addition, the Eagles remained ranked No. 7 in the Final NAIA Coaches Poll and earns an Opening Round bye.

The Eagles concluded the regular season with record of 25-8 and finished tied for second in the GSAC with a record of 16-4. Biola suffered a tough five-set loss in its regular-season finale at Point Loma Nazarene, which kept the Eagles from sole possession of second place. However, the loss did not affect Biola's national ranking as the Eagles have no stayed at No. 7 the last three weeks.

The 36-team field was announced on Sunday afternoon. The top 11 teams and the host school earn an automatic berth to the final site while the remaining 24 teams play an opening round match on campus sites. The winners of those 12 matches join the other 12 schools at the final site.

Six GSAC teams earned a berth to the NAIA Tournament with five earning a first-round bye. Point Loma Nazarene will have to play an opening round match against an opponent to be determined.

Biola is making its fourth-consecutive trip to the NAIA Tournament and its 10th trip overall. The Eagles are 35-18 all-time in the tournament and have advanced out of pool play in eight of their previous nine trips. Last season, Biola was the No. 10 seed, but failed to reach the knock-out stage after going 1-2 in pool play.
