Biola Crushes Concordia, 73-52

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior  forwards Jennifer French and Jessilyn Conicelli each scored 16 points with French notching her second double-double of the season as Biola cruised to a 73-52 victory over Concordia in a GSAC game on Saturday night at Chase Gymnasium.

Biola improves to 9-6 on the season with the sixth win in its last seven games, and moves into a three-way tie for third in the conference at 5-2. Concordia drops to 9-6 overall and to 2-5 in GSAC play.

Biola led the contest from start to finish, leading by as many as 30 midway through the second half en route to the win. Conicelli and French each did their part, scoring 16 points each with French adding 12 rebounds for her second double-double in three games. Conicelli was just one rebound shy of a double-double herself, finishing with nine boards--six on the offensive end.

Sophomore Christina Barclay contributed 11 points, adding six rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal in 26 minutes.

With the game tied at 2-2 early on, Biola quickly jumped on top as French hit back-to-back three-pointers to break the tie and start a 10-0 run by the home side. Concordia kept the score around that margin over most of the rest of the half, still leading by 11 at 27-16 on a three-pointer by Nicole Fu. However, French answered right back with a three of her own which again ignited a Biola run, this time a 12-1 run which ended the half with Biola up 39-17.

In the second half, Biola kept up the defensive pressure, allowing just four made field goals over the course of the first 12 minutes, stretch the lead up to 30 on a jumper by Jamie Elias at the 7:49 mark. From that point on, Concordia's Lindsey Kingsland took over, scoring 14 points over the final seven minutes to help close the gap a bit. However, Biola finished with with a late surge to win by 21.

Concordia, which came into the game ranked eighth in the NAIA in opposing three-point percentage, allowed Biola to hit 5-of-12 from beyond the arc. The visitors were only able to muster five of their own on 21 attempts from beyond the arc.

Biola held a dominate 36-14 edge on points in the paint and outscored Concordia 17-8 in second chance points thanks to a 52-43 advantage on the glass. Both teams attempted 68 field goals in the game with Biola connecting on 30 shots (44.1 percent) while Concordia hit just 19 shots (27.9 percent).

Kingsland led Concordia with 14 points and four rebounds.

Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 19), hosting The Master's College in what could prove to be a key GSAC battle around the end of the year. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium
