BOX SCORE
RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- No. 1 California Baptist scored a pair of first-half goals and held on for a 2-0 victory over a much-improved Biola side in a GSAC match on Tuesday afternoon.
The loss was the Eagles' first of the season and dropped them to 4-1-1 overall and to 1-1-0 in GSAC play. The Lancers improve to 9-0-1 and to 2-0-0 in the conference.
Biola played strong defense against the potent California Baptist offense which had tallied 29 goals through its first nine matches. Sophomore goalkeeper
Erin Frushon made nine saves and faced 20 shots in the match.
However, the Eagles' offense just was not able to get past the Lancers' defense, creating only two shots with only one on goal.
The Lancers got on the board in the 16th minute as Eva Solis collected a loose ball which landed at her feet off a free kick. She sent the ball easily into the open goal to give CBU an early lead.
In the 34th minute, Solis threaded a ball onto the foot Lizzy Bendrick, who was in the box alone and beat Frushon with a quick touch.
The first goal of the match snapped Frushon's scoreless streak at 404 minutes, the longest such streak since the 2003 season. Despite the two goals, her goals against average is still at a sparkling 0.64.
Biola returns home for another key matchup, this time taking on No. 23 Cal State San Marcos in a non-conference match on Friday (Oct. 2) at 4:30 p.m.
