PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. --- Biola split a pair of games on the second day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic, defeating Walsh University (Ohio) 6-2, but falling to No. 9 Olivet Nazarene 5-4 in a 10-inning marathon on Friday afternoon. 

The Eagles (7-4) used a strong day from Sara Smith, who went 5-for-7 in the two games, to rebound from a tough loss on Thursday.

In the first game, Biola fell behind early as Walsh scored a run on a double and a double-steal. The Eagles answered back in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Keena Levert which was followed by a run-scoring double by Erica Moyer.

Walsh tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI double Brittany Sostre. But Biola broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Krista Johnson drove in a pair of runs with a double and came around to score on a double by Lauren Gandy.

The Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the next inning, on an RBI groundout by Jillian Albert. 

Moyer picked up the win in the first game, allowing just two runs and striking out four in five innings pitched.

The second game proved to be quite a thriller as the Eagles took on No. 9 Olivet Nazarene. Both teams had runners on base in each inning and still had to go 10 innings to determine a winner.

Biola struck first with a run in the first. Johnson led off the game with a double, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Lyndsie Roberts.

Olivet tied the game in the bottom of the third with a run, though it could have been worse. The Lions had back-to-back singles with one out and, after an infield out, tied the game on the third single of the frame. A walk loaded the bases with two out, but Roberts escaped more damaged with a strikeout.

Olivet added another run in the fourth inning on a pair of doubles to take a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Biola picked up a run to tie the game. Jillian Albert led off the inning with a single, stole second and third, and came around to score on a two-out double by Levert to make it 2-2.

The Lions answered back with another run in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch and looked like they would win 3-2. But Biola tied the game in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. With one out, Gandy reached base and advanced to second on an Olivet error. Roberts followed with a single to put runners at the corners. Gandy then came around to score as the Lions attempted to turn a double play which Levert beat out to keep the game going.

After holding Olivet without a run in the bottom of the seventh, the teams headed to extra innings and the international tiebreaker rule was put in place. With the last out of the seventh put on second, Biola quickly took back the lead as Brittany Bury singled home the go-ahead run. Smith then followed with a single to put runners as second with no one out. However, the Eagles were unable to push across an extra run in the inning.

Olivet also pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice bunt followed by a sacrifice fly and neither team managed to score in the top of the ninth and they headed to the 10th. But Biola was again unable to score in the 10th. The inning started off with promise as with one out a single by Bury put runners at first and third with one out. But the Lions ended the threat with a double play to end the inning.

Olivet then took advantage of the scoreless frame to score the winning run. The international tiebreaker runner was moved to third with an attempted sacrifice, then won walked off with the win on a sacrifice fly.

Biola closes out the classic with a pair of games on Saturday, facing Morningside University and Shorter College.
