LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior Keena Levert drove in all four runs in the second game as Biola put up a valiant effort against one of the NAIA's best teams, but ultimately came up just a bit short, falling 5-0 and 5-4 to No. 3 Cal Baptist in a GSAC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Freedom Field in La Mirada.

The Eagles, who entered the game ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, fell to 8-7 on the season and to 2-4 in conference play. The Lancers improve to 21-1 and to 5-1 in the GSAC.

Levert had a pair of amazing at-bats to pace the Biola offense in the second game of the twinbill. In the third inning, she stepped to the dish with runners on the corners and two out. She battled through a 10-pitch at-bat, fouling off seven pitches before finally driving a double to left centerfield to score Krista Johnson and Lauren Gandy. The double gave the Eagles an early 2-0 lead.

But the lead was short-lived as the Lancers' Sarah Hurlbut took advantage of a Biola error, hitting a three-run home run with two out in the inning to make it 3-2.

Biola answered back in the fifth as Johnson led off the inning with a walk followed by an infield single by Gandy. Lyndsie Roberts moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt to set the table for Levert. Cal Baptist switched pitcher, opting to bring in a fresh arm to face the Biola slugger. But Levert did not need 10 pitches this time, slugging the first pitch she saw into right center to again bring home Johnson and Gandy.

However, the Lancers weren't finished. The five-time defending GSAC champs tied the game in the sixth. Nina Cabrales drilled a triple to right field with one out and came around to score the tying run on an infield groundout. They would then score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh as Nikki Lowe hit an RBI-double down the leftfield line.

In game one, Biola had an early chance to take the lead, loading the bases with just one out. Johnson opened the Eagles half of the first with a double to right centerfield, then Roberts drew a one-out walk. That was followed by a sharp single by Levert through the left side which loaded the bases. After a strikeout, Brittany Bury drilled a shot but it was right at the first baseman, who knocked down the ball and made the play to end the threat.

Cal Baptist scored first with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, thanks in part to a triple by Sarah Hurlbut and an RBI-single by Ashley Boyd.

The Lancers added another in the fifth on a home run by Ashley Boyd. They would round out the scoring with an RBI-double by Briana Corral and an RBI-single by Boyd.

Levert finished the day going 3-for-6 with four RBIs to pace Biola.

The Eagles have now lost all seven of their games to teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25, with three of the last four coming to teams in the Top 15 by just one run.

Biola looks to get back on track on Saturday (Mar. 14), traveling south to face Cal State San Marcos in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at Noon. The twinbill is a makeup of what was supposed to be the Eagles' season-opener which was postponed due to rain.
