BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola shot a season-low 22 percent from the field and it resulted in an untimely loss to The Master's College, which scored a 65-50 win over the Eagles in a GSAC came on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The loss drops Biola to 17-10 on the season, but more importantly into a four-way time for fifth place in the conference, one game behind Azusa Pacific for fourth. The Mustangs are also in that four-way tie with a 9-9 GSAC mark and improve to 14-13 overall.
The Eagles had a though shooting night, hitting just 16 of 72 shots in the game including just six of 34 from three-point range. The Mustangs had little trouble with the baskets at Chase Gymnasium, though, connecting on 22-of-51 shots in the game (43 percent).
Biola received 12 points from Charrise Reece and Jennifer French added 11 points, though she was able to hit just 1-of-14 shots from three-point range and 3-of-21 overall.
Annie Gillespie poured in a game-high 21 points to pace The Master's while Jenna Reed added nine points.
The game was close through the first eight minutes as the two teams battled things out. But the Eagles shooting started to go south as the Mustangs went on a 23-5 run over the next nine minutes and took a 17-point lead to the half.
In the second half, the Eagles closed the gap to 15 early in the half on a nice drive and basket by Emily Drews which made it 53-38. But the Mustangs answered back with a pair of baskets to stretch the lead back to 19. Biola would close to within 14 on a pair of occasions, but could not get much closer the rest of the way as the Eagles shot just 18.2 percent in the second half.
Biola returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 28), traveling to Cal Baptist in what has now become a must-win if the Eagles hope to secure a first-round GSAC playoff home game and the chance at a trip to the NAIA tournament. Tip off for the game is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Riverside.
