GAME TWO BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene flexed a bit of muscle against No. 20 Biola, sweeping a doubleheader by scores of 7-0 and 8-0 in the GSAC openers for both teams.
The Eagles had a three-game winning streak snapped and drop to 3-2 and to 0-2 in the GSAC. The Sea Lions improve to 9-0 on the season and to 2-0 in conference play.
Biola just seemed unable to get things going at Point Loma on the day, despite collecting 16 hits over the course of the two games.
In the first game, the Eagles got behind early allowing a run in the first and three unearned runs in the second inning. The Sea Lions added two more in the third inning as they started pulling away. Biola had a couple of good chances putting two runners on base with just one out in both the first and the third. However, the clutch hit the Eagles needed never came.
The story was the same in the second game, though the two teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 through the first four innings. Biola looked like it might break through in the bottom of the fourth as pitcher Lyndsie Roberts opened the inning with a double and right fielder Erica Moyer hit a one-out single to put runners on the corners. However, PLNU starter Melissa Gomez worked out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat.
Biola had at least two baserunners on in each of the final four innings, but again were unable to collect the clutch hit to get on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Point Loma broke the ice with a solo home run in the top of the next inning, adding two more runs later in the inning to go up 3-0.
In the sixth, the Sea Lions pushed across four more runs to break the game wide open and would cruise to the win.
Junior Brittany Bury and seniors Keena Levert and Krista Johnson each collected three hits on the afternoon for Biola.
The Eagles look to shake off the losses on Friday (Feb. 27), traveling to Mt. SAC to battle Hope International in a GSAC doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.
