BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior forward Andrew Schroeder scored a team-high 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field to pace No. 17 Biola to a season-opening 81-61 win over Holy Names University in a non-conference game on Thursday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles (1-0) had an outstanding shooting night to start the season, connecting on 56 percent from the field (35-for-63) including hitting their first eight shots in the game.

Schroeder matched a career-high with his 18 points, adding eight rebounds and a pair of assists in 23 minutes. Senior center Rocky Hampton added 14 points and eight boards while senior guard Danny Campbell added 12 points and a pair of assists.

Biola was 8-for-8 to start off the game and scored on eight of its first nine possessions to jump out to a 17-9 lead five minutes into the contest. The Hawks (0-1) closed the gap with an 11-6 run stretched over an eight minute period, pulling within three at 23-20. But the Eagles came right back with a 14-4 run, taking a 37-24 lead on a nice, turn-around jumper by Hampton. Biola headed to the locker room with a 40-28 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Eagles used a seven-point run near the midway point of the half to take a 19-point lead at 57-38 on a Schroeder jumper in the paint. The Eagles would stretch the lead to as many as 28 points before a late HNU run set the final spread at 20 points.

Joshua Smith led the Hawks with 20 points and recorded a pair of steals while David Scott added 13 points and six rebounds.

The Eagles return to the court in two weeks, traveling to Azusa for the APU Cougar Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14.
