BOX SCORE

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- Junior Tavea Hampton had 12 kills and posted a .647 attack percentage to lead Biola to a 25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 28-26 victory over The Master's College in a GSAC match on Saturday night at Bross Gymnasium.

The Eagles improve to 17-8 on the season and to 8-6 in conference play while the Mustangs drop to 9-15 overall and to 1-13 in the GSAC.

Hampton had a great night for Biola adding four blocks including two solo to her match-high kill total. Senior right-side hitter Meghan Cunningham also had a strong night, matching her season-high with 11 kills and adding three blocks.

Biola had little trouble winning the first two sets, but The Master's put up a strong fight in the final two. In the third set, the Eagles seemed to be cruising to a quick sweep, holding a 19-15 lead after a Hampton kill. But the Mustangs weren't quite ready to head home, using a 6-1 run to take a late 21-20 lead. After a Biola block tied the score, The Master's answered back, scoring four of the final five points of the set to win 25-22.

In the fourth game, the Eagles opened up with a 5-2 lead, but quickly saw that evaporate. The Master's used an 8-3 run to take a 10-8 lead and continued to pull away. A kill by Sarah Oskam gave the Mustangs their largest lead of the set at 21-16 as it appeared as though they would force a decisive fifth set. However, Biola responded in a big way.

After a timeout, the Eagles rattled off five-straight points to knot the set at 21-21. The two teams exchanged points for the next little while with The Master's serving for the set twice, the last at 26-25. But the Mustangs weren't able to close it out, committing three straight errors as Biola held on for the 28-26 victory.

Oskam and Stephanie McBride each recorded 11 kills to pace The Master's.

Biola remains on the road for its next match, traveling to Azusa to face off against arch-rival Azusa Pacific University on Tuesday (Oct. 27) beginning at 7:00 p.m.
