Tavea Hampton has been named the GSAC volleyball player of the week for the week of October 12-18 as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Hampton, a junior from Canyon Lake, recorded 26 kills and added 13 blocks--including one solo--to help No. 14 Biola win a pair of conference matches last week. She averaged 3.25 kills per game and recorded a .489 hitting percentage for the week as the Eagles swept past Hope International on Tuesday and pulled off a stunning upset with a five-set win at No. 3 Concordia on Saturday.
Hampton recorded a match-high 16 kills and had seven blocks in the victory over Hope International. In that match, she had a season-best .652 attack percentage with 16 kills and just one error in 23 swings.
Hampton followed that up with a strong match against Concordia, collecting 10 kills and adding six blocks. She was also pressed into a serving role for the first time in her career, committing just one error in 19 serve attempts.
Hampton has been a big part of Biola's four-match winning streak which includes road victories over a pair of NAIA Top-10 teams. She has recorded 50 kills (3.12 per set) and 22 blocks over those four matches with a .512 attack percentage. For the season, she has a team-best 78 blocks (0.96 per set) and is third on the squad with 181 kills (2.26 per set).
Biola, which is ranked No. 14 in the latest NAIA National Poll, is riding a four-match winning streak to improve to 16-7 in the season and is currently sixth in the GSAC with a 7-5 record. The Eagles host the defending NAIA Champion and No. 1-ranked Fresno Pacific University in a GSAC match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
