Tavea Hampton
BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior Tavea Hampton had 16 kills and a season-high seven blocks to lead Biola to a 32-30, 25-14, 25-14 sweep over Hope International University in a GSAC match on Tuesday night at Al Barbour Field.

The Eagles improve to 15-7 and to 6-5 in GSAC play with their third-straight win and fourth in the last five matches. The Royals drop to 6-16 and to 2-9 in the conference.

Hampton had an impressive match, recording 16 kills in 23 attacks with just one hitting error for a.652 attack percentage. Her 16 kills match a season high.

The Eagles got off to another sluggish start in the match, similar to the start against San Diego Christian the week before. The first set was a true seesaw battle. The Eagles seemed to be in control early, jumping out to a 14-9 lead. But the Royals fought back and eventually tied the score at 17-17. From there neither team took a lead bigger than two points.

Biola looked like it would put the set away, taking a 23-21 lead after a kill by Janae O'Connor. But the Royals responded with a pair of kills by Naomi Iosia, which knotted the game at 23-23. After a kill by Hampton gave the Eagles lead back, Hope took its first lead of the set thanks to a service error by the Eagles and a kill Sine Schirmer.

Biola took the one-point advantage back with kills by Nicolette Mather and Justine Schoneveld, but the teams continued to exchange points until the score was knotted at 30-30. From there, Hampton recorded a big kill followed by a bad set by Hope which finally gave the set to Biola.

The second and third sets were much easier on the Eagles. In the second, Biola trailed 4-2 early on, but used a long 14-4 run to break the set open. It was a similar story in the third set as the Eagles trailed 5-2 before an 11-1 run helped them cruise the easy wins.

Mather was Biola's second-best hitter, recording nine kills on just one error for a .421 attack percentage. It was her third highest mark of the season with two of those three coming against Hope.

Iosia led the Royals with 10 kills and added 11 digs.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Oct. 17), traveling to Irvine to face No. 3-ranked Concordia University in a GSAC match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
