BOX SCORE
EL CAJON, Calif. --- Sophomore forward Jessilyn Conicelli had game highs of 15 points and 14 rebounds to pace Biola to a 62-49 win over San Diego Christian College in a GSAC game on Saturday night at the Ryan Athletic Center in El Cajon.
The victory is the sixth-straight win for the Eagles, who improve to 10-3 on the season and 3-2 in GSAC play. The Hawks fall to 3-10 with the loss and are now 0-5 in the conference.
Conicelli continued her strong play for Biola this season, recording her seventh double-double of the year and adding a team-high seven assists in the winning effort. Junior guard Chelsea De Luca added 14 points thanks to four three-pointers and also had six rebounds while senior forward Megann Alberts scored eight points and added 10 boards.
Biola struggled to find its shot through the first six minutes of the game, falling behind quickly 13-4. Biola came to life with six minutes to play in the first half. Still trailing by four at 21-17, the Eagles rattled off a 23-4 run which spanned the half and gave them a 40-25 lead with 16:17 left in the game.
San Diego Christian came roaring back as James caught fire from beyond the arc. The senior hit three from beyond the arc to key a 15-4 run which pulled the Hawks to within four at 48-44 with 8:42 left. Biola would stretch the lead back to eight on a deep two-pointer by Emily Drews followed by a pair of free throws by freshman guard Charrise Reece.
However, San Diego Christian closed the gap to three thanks to a five-point run by Lara Hertzog which made it 52-49 with 5:45 remaining. That would prove to be the final points for San Diego Christian, though, as Biola clamped down on defense.
Drews proved quite instrumental off the bench for the Eagles in the final five minutes, scoring six of her eight points and adding a pair of rebounds and an assist as time wound down.
Biola's six-game winning streak is the longest since the Eagles won seven-straight during the 2003-04 season. The 10 wins by Biola this year already matches the most wins since the 2003-04 season when the Eagles went 20-14 and reached the NAIA National Championship tournament.
Biola returns home for its next contest, hosting No. 15 Westmont in a GSAC contest at Chase Gymnasium on Tuesday (Jan. 13). Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
