FRESNO, Calif. --- Fabiana Leomil had 11 kills and Marin Canaday added 10 as No. 1 Fresno Pacific swept No. 5 Biola 30-25, 30-17, 30-18 in a Golden State Athletic Conference match on Tuesday evening at the Special Events Center in Fresno.
The Eagles drop to 12-2 on the season and 5-2 in the GSAC while the Sun Birds improve to 15-0 and 6-0 in conference.
Junior Kelsey Mitchell had nine kills to lead Biola while junior outside hitter Jessica Buffum and sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Christoferson each added eight.
Christoferson had another strong hitting night, posting a .727 attack percentage by recording her eight kills in 11 attacks without committing an error. She now leads the GSAC with a .426 attack percentage on the season.
The Eagles never were able to get going in the match, playing a close first game with Fresno Pacific before the Sun Birds pulled away late for the win. Games two and three saw FPU go on long runs to take control and cruising to the easy win.
Biola hit just .146 for the match while Fresno posted a .287 attack percentage.
The Eagles have now lost their last two matches after starting the season 12-0. However, they are also in the midst of the toughest part of their schedule–a stretch which has them playing six teams ranked in the NAIA's Top-10 in eight matches. Halfway through the stretch, they are 2-2 with four remaining.
Next up on the docket is a non-conference match against No. 4 National American University (S.D.) on Friday (Sept. 28). The match, which will be played at Concordia University, is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
