BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Juniors Jessica Buffum and Meghan Warkentin each had 13 kills to lead Biola University to a 30-28, 30-23, 30-15 sweep over Westmont College in GSAC match Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada.

The Eagles improve to 16-3 on the season and are now 8-3 in conference play. The Warriors drop to 10-10 overall and 3-8 in the GSAC.

The match started out in a ominous fashion as Biola struggled offensively and held just one lead early on at 11-10. Westmont was firing on all cylinders and making great defensive plays to keep just a few points ahead.

The two teams battled back and forth until a Biola error gave the Warriors a 28-25 lead. But the Eagles rattled off five straight points as Buffum and sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Christoferson each recorded a kill and a block to secure a 30-28 victory.

Biola used the momentum from the first game and jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead. Westmont slowly closed the gap to 16-14 before the Eagles went on a 11-3 run to go up 27-17. But the Warriors would not go away and closed the gap to 28-22 before Biola finally put the game away.

However, the wheels finally came off for Westmont in game three as Biola opened the match on a 17-6 run and never looked back. Sophomore setter Abbie Wright wrapped things up with an ace to send the Biola fans home happy.

Wright and fellow tag-team setter, junior Christina Perkins each had strong nights, recording 21 and 22 assists, respectively.

Buffum had 13 kills, four digs and a block to lead Biola's attack, hitting .400 in the match. Warkentin posted 13 kills and also had three blocks. Christoferson, who leads the GSAC in attack percentage, recorded six kills and hit a respectable .286 on the night, adding four blocks.

Biola continued to play tough defense, maintaining its GSAC-best opponent hitting percentage by holding Westmont to a .120 attack percentage.

The Eagles hit the road for their next match, traveling to Costa Mesa to face No. 18 Vanguard University in a GSAC contest on Thursday (Oct. 11) at 7:00 p.m.
