Assistant Coach

Michael Acuna joins the Biola men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach in the midst of the 2023-2024 season.

Acuna brings a plethora of coaching experience to the Eagles’ squad. The Walnut, California native has spent nearly the last 10 years coaching collegiate and high school programs in southern California.

His most recent stint was at Azusa Pacific, assisting there for just over two seasons, beginning in 2021. Acuna began his collegiate coaching career at Bethesda University in Anaheim, California, coaching there from 2019-2021 while helping the team to a conference championship in 2020.

At the high school level, Acuna was the head coach at Southlands Christian High School for four seasons. He led the Eagles to a 67-35 record in that span and was awarded the 2016 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honor in 2016.

“I chose Biola for the opportunity to grow and impact the basketball team and Biola community for God’s glory.” said Acuna.

He and his wife, Yuko, have two children, Yuuki and Maki, and currently reside in Walnut.
