The 2012-2013 season will mark the 15th year B.J. Foster has been either a player or coach in the Golden State Athletic Conference. In the previous 14 years, Foster has won a combine 293 games with 167 losses, qualified for eight trips to the NAIA National tournament, won a conference regular season championship (2002), and a conference tournament championship (2012).
Foster started his playing career in the 1998-99 season for Point Loma Nazarene University, playing three years for the Sea Lions racking up 1396 points, good for 11th all time. He earned two team MVP awards and was a two-time All-GSAC and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Foster ranked second in the GSAC in scoring in both 2000 and 2001, averaging 18.5 points per game in 2001.
Foster also led a Point Loma team to its first NAIA National Tournament appearance in 20 years in 2000. PLNU ended that season with 28 wins, tying the 1984 team with the most wins since 1952.
After three successful years at PLNU, Foster transferred to Biola for his senior season. In his lone season with the Eagles, Biola won its only regular season conference championship and Foster was again rewarded as an All-GSAC selection. Biola was ranked either number 1 or 2 in the NAIA polls throughout the season before being upset in the second round by the eventual national champions. Foster averaged 13.5 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, and shot 45 percent from the field during the season.
From 2003-2006, Foster coached two years back at Point Loma and two years at Vanguard University. His 2003 Point Loma team returned to the National tournament as did the 2006 Vanguard team. That was just Vanguards 2nd trip to the NAIA Tournament in the school’s history.
Foster then returned to Biola as the assistant basketball coach in 2007. Over the last six years, Biola has gone 138-61, making four trips to the National Tournament including three consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Quarterfinals (2010, 2011, 2012). Biola also won its only GSAC conference tournament championship in 2012.
Foster's many duties include recruiting, game preparation and scouting, scheduling, and academic advising.
Foster earned a degree in Physical Education from Point Loma Nazarene University (2003) and a Master’s in Coaching, Sports Administration, & Exercise Science from Concordia University (2007). He is married to Dawn Foster and the couple is expecting their first child this spring.
