Six Goals, Three for Phelps

Senior records hat trick as Biola improves to 2-0 in conference play

LA MIRADA --- The Biola women's soccer team hosted the visiting Hawaii Pacific Sharks on Monday afternoon. Briley Phelps recorded a hat trick and Jade Alverio added two goals as Biola rolled past HPU, 6-0, at Al Barbour Field to improve to 2-0 in PacWest play.

Phelps wasted little time putting the Eagles in front, finishing off a pass from Cassidy Sims in the sixth minute. Less than two minutes later, Alverio doubled the lead with an unassisted goal to give Biola an early 2-0 advantage.

The Eagles continued to control the opening half and added another just before the break. Phelps found the back of the net for the second time in the 42nd minute, converting off assists from Sims and Mallory Palm to send Biola into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Biola picked up right where it left off after the break. Adrielle Salvador scored just 36 seconds into the second half off an assist from Riley Brumfield, recording her first goal of the season and stretching the lead to four.

Alverio added her second of the afternoon in the 65th minute before Phelps completed the hat trick in the 87th minute off Palm's second assist of the match.

The Eagles controlled the attack throughout the afternoon, outshooting the Sharks 28-10 and holding a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. Phelps accounted for 11 of Biola's attempts, putting six on frame, while Alverio finished with six shots. Palm and Sims each recorded two assists.

Biola was just as strong on the defensive end. Sami Robinson and Laura Brennan split time in goal and combined for the shutout. Robinson made two saves in the opening half, including a stop on a Hawaii Pacific penalty kick in the 36th minute, before Brennan took over after halftime and added three saves of her own.

The Eagles will host the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans on Thursday, October 1st at 4 p.m.
