LA MIRADA---The Biola men's tennis team earned multiple All-PacWest honors, highlighted by head coach
David Goodman being named PacWest Coach of the Year following one of the most successful seasons in Biola Men's Tennis program history.
Goodman earned PacWest Coach of the Year for the first time of his career. He guided the Eagles to a 15-3 overall record, including wins over then-No. 12 APU and No. 47 WNMU. Biola put together a seven-match winning streak, earned PacWest Team of the Week honors twice and produced two PacWest Players of the Week. The Eagles also climbed as high as No. 22 in the national rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and remained ranked for six-consecutive weeks.
Angel Guerrero Melgar and Alejandro Flores Monteverde led the Eagles in singles, each earning First Team All-PacWest recognition.
Guerrero Melgar competed at the No. 1 position and posted a 4-4 record, highlighted by key victories over opponents from HPU and PLNU. He also reached as high as No. 30 in the national rankings.
Flores Monteverde led Biola with a 12-1 overall record while competing across the top three positions, including a 7-0 mark at No. 2. He earned wins over opponents from HPU, PLNU, APU and WNMU. Flores Monteverde was named PacWest Player of the Week twice and reached a career-high national ranking of No. 41. This was the Junior's third time being named all-conference.
Adam Large secured Second Team All-PacWest honors after compiling an 8-1 overall record while competing across the top three positions. He secured standout wins over opponents from APU and PLNU.
In doubles, Guerrero Melgar and Flores Monteverde earned First Team All-PacWest recognition after posting a 5-1 record at the No. 1 position. The duo secured standout wins over PLNU and APU and climbed to No. 1 in the national rankings. The pair remained nationally ranked in all seven weeks. Guerrero Melgar and Flores Monteverde were also the doubles champions at the Fall ITA West Regional Men's Open.
The Biola men's tennis team begins the PacWest Conference Championship Thursday, April 16th at 9 a.m.
