Overtime Heartbreaker

The Biola Eagles delivered a strong showing but lost a hard-fought overtime battle.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's basketball team delivered a strong showing but lost a hard-fought 79–74 overtime battle to Menlo.

Biola entered the final period trailing by three and responded with a determined push to reclaim momentum. Laney Grider opened the quarter with a made three-pointer that tied the game at 57-57. The Eagles would go on to take as much as a five-point lead two times before Menlo would close the gap and tie up the game with five seconds remaining in regulation when sent the teams into overtime (69-69).

In overtime, Menlo capitalized on timely perimeter shooting to seize control. Alyssa Kubo opened the extra period with a go-ahead layup for Biola, but the Oaks responded with back-to-back three-pointers to swing momentum. MiaGrace Delahoz kept the Eagles within striking distance with a clutch triple midway through overtime, trimming the deficit to three, but Menlo converted a late inside bucket and defensive stops to seal the five-point victory.

Grider and Kubo were BU's leading scorers and recorded 18 points each. Jaycee Goldsmith was just shy of a double-double with 11 rebounds and eight points. She also added three steals and two blocks to an impressive stat sheet.

The Eagles fell 12-9 and 9-7 in the PacWest Conference while Menlo improved 9-13 and 7-10 in the conference.
