Eagles rally late but fall 11–8 in home opener vs. CSUSM

LA MIRADA --- The Biola baseball team celebrated their alumni before game three of a four game series against Cal State San Marcos. Despite a late push, the Eagles were unable to come away with a win in game one, 11-8.

The offense for Biola was slow to start after Nick Madole got Biola on the board first with a line drive home run down the left field line. Across the fifth and six innings, the Cougars put up nine runs on 10 hits, leaving BU with a comeback opportunity.

Adiel Torres was quick to answer with a bases loaded single. Kyle Rogers followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Madole and Whitman closed out the three run innings with a RBI single up the middle.

In the seventh, Oscar Knapp and Rogers both ripped RBI doubles to bring Biola to within three.

Both teams traded scores in the eighth. Madole lined an RBI double to score Jonny Tewinkle and would come all the way around on a defensive error by San Marcos.

A ninth inning double from Whitman would be the final offense the Eagles would see.

Blake Wentz got the start for BU, throwing four and a third innings allowing four runs on three hits and striking out four. Erick Felix allowed three runs on four hits after only retiring one hitter.
Wyatt Nichol followed with two and a third innings, striking out three and giving up two runs.
Christian Trejo and Taj Brar threw an inning each. Trejo gave up one hit and two runs while Brar struck out two Cougars and let none reach base.

In the loss, Biola moves to 3-4 overall and take on the Cougars for game two at 2:30 p.m.
