LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola Women's Basketball continued its strong run on Monday night, extending its winning streak to five games with a commanding 79–39 victory over Chaminade.
Playing its second game in three days, Biola brought high energy from the opening tip and capitalized on an opportunity to savor some more home cooking.
The 40-point margin marked Biola's largest victory since a 97–51 win over Bethesda University on Jan. 10, 2023. It's the largest margin of victory in a conference game since BU's 89-44 win over Holy Names on Dec. 4, 2021.
The Eagles opened with a 20–2 first quarter, holding Chaminade to just 8 percent shooting (1-of-12) in the first 10 minutes while forcing turnovers and converting easy looks in transition.
While the defense set the tone, the offense was crisp and balanced. Biola shot 51.8 percent from the field and 13-for-29 (44.8%) from three, piling up 23 assists on 29 made baskets. Twenty-two of Biola's 79 points came as a direct result of a Chaminade turnover. The Silverswords coughed it up 19 times on the night.
Hanne Nybo was the team's leading scorer with 14 points on an efficient 4-for-6 shooting performance. She added seven points and now averages 9.5 points and 5.6 rebounds this season. It was an impressive scoreline for Nybo, who played just 17 minutes in this one.
Biola maintained its momentum throughout the night, steadily building its lead. The Eagles never trailed at any point in this game. It's the fourth time in the last two weeks that Biola won a game and never had any lead changes (at Chaminade, at Hawaii Hilo, vs. FPU).
Offensively, Biola received contributions across the lineup, with multiple players scoring efficiently as the Eagles continued to apply pressure in transition and the half court. The depth and pace were especially evident as Biola stretched the margin in the middle quarters and comfortably closed out the game in the fourth.
Some notable scorers late in the game included Addison Taylor with seven points and three rebounds, Alyssa Goode with six points on 2-for-4 shooting and a bucket, a board, an assist, and a steal for Kayla Jones. Biola's bench accumulated 42 points in this one, which is a new season-high.
Biola earned 32 of its 79 points from inside the paint. This doubled up Chaminade's inside scoring, which was limited to just 16 total points.
The win improves Biola's overall record to 11-8 overall and the team is now 8-6 in league play following this fifth-straight victory. The Eagles now sit seventh overall in the PacWest table, one game behind SoCal rivals Concordia for the sixth and final spot in the PacWest Championships. Dominican University also sits at 9-5 in league play, within reasonable reach of BU. Biola will play Dominican on Feb. 12 and Feb. 19 and Concordia on Feb. 26 in games that seem like they may have big postseason implications.
