TRACY, Calif.---The Biola Eagles secured a 5-2 victory over CSU San Bernardino on Saturday evening at the Tracy Sports Complex, using timely hitting and a complete-game performance from
DJ Symons to earn the win.
After four scoreless innings, the Eagles broke through in the top of the fifth. Reyna Hernandez led off the frame with a double before Kennadie Tsue drove her in with an double down the left field line to give Biola a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Mikala Huskey singled through the left side to score Tsue and extend the advantage to 2-0.
CSU San Bernardino answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Biola responded again in the sixth. Kendall Nakano singled to open the inning and came around to score on an RBI double from Lillianna Garcia, pushing the Eagles' lead to 3-1.
The Coyotes cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the sixth, making it 3-2, but Biola added insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Tsue sparked the rally with a single and later scored on a triple by Leilani Salgado. Huskey followed with another RBI single to plate Salgado and give the Eagles a 5-2 cushion.
Huskey led the offensive effort, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Tsue added two hits and an RBI, while Salgado finished 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. The Eagles totaled 11 hits in the contest.
In the circle, Symons delivered a complete-game performance, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven to earn the win.
With the victory, Biola improved to 9-11 overall on the season.
