Success Against Sea Lions

Biola improves to 4-0 with a huge win over Point Loma.

February 21, 2026

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola Men's Tennis returned to sunny Southern California and kept its winning streak alive in a dominant showing against rivals Point Loma. Head Coach David Goodman's bunch won the doubles point and five of six singles matches to pick up a fourth win in a row.

The result is a mirror image of the last time these two sides met in March 2025. Point Loma won that match 6-1 and swept the season series last year. The tone was set by a sweep of doubles for Biola. Point Loma was unable to fill the third doubles flight, so BU just needed one win to clinch the doubles point, but they were on track to go above and beyond.

At the top spot, Angel Guerrero Melgar and Alejandro Flores Monteverde picked up a 6-2 win. The pair lost the first point of the day, but then flipped their card five games in a row to take charge of the matchup.

At the second doubles spot, Biola was marching steadily towards a win in the unfinished match. Pol Masafret Hernandez and Juan Vallejo were up 5-2 when play stopped after the top pairing clinched. Monteverde and Guerrero improved to 2-0 together this season.

Singles also saw Biola spotted one point as a team as PLNU could not fill the no. 6 flight, giving Mateo Rivas the day off. That made the match 2-0 overall before singles play even began.

The Biola men earned three straight-set victories to clinch the match win with Juan Vallejo the first to finish in his 6-0, 6-0 win at the no. 4 spot. Vallejo improved to 3-0 in singles this season, playing in his third different spot in the order.

Guerrero Melgar was the next to finish as he picked up the victory in the top singles spot. He went down 4-1 in his first set before charging back for a thrilling 7-6 victory. He went on to cruise to a 6-2 set win in the second frame to improve to 3-0 in the young season.

Biola's other two wins came from Adam Large (6-4; 6-3) and Flores Monteverde (5-7; 6-2; 6-1).

The team victory pushes Biola to 4-0 for the season. The next battle for coach Goodman's bunch comes on Monday when they host Whittier at 4 p.m.
