Whitman’s Blast Sparks Biola to 2-0 Start

Whitman breaks Biola Division II record with a two-run homer as Ballantyne tosses five scoreless innings in 12-run win

LA MIRADA --- The Biola baseball team picked up right where they left off against Regis on Friday putting up 12 runs on nine hits.

James Whitman started game two on a high note, hitting a two-run blast tying the record for Biola in the Division II era.

"It's exciting to see Whit do that," shared head coach Jesse Rodgers. "All the work he's put in and to tie the record. He's ready for a big senior season."

In the bottom of the second, the Eagles logged three doubles from Ashton Pass, Adiel Torres, and James Whitman. Torres drove in three, while Whitman drove in Torres.

In the fourth, BU poured it on after Pass ripped a triple down the left field line, later scoring on a wild pitch. After Luke Caruso and Whitman reached base, Ty Cowley lined a single to right, scoring Caruso. Nick Madole would double after a Kyle Rogers hit by pitch, scoring Cowley. The Eagles were patient at the plate scoring three runs on three walks with the bases loaded.

Luke Ballantyne had a stellar first appearance, throwing five scoreless innings, striking out nine. John Iacono would enter and allow the first three runs for Regis on two hits while Reagan samples recorded the final two outs after giving up one more run.

The Eagles went 2-0 on opening day and face Regis tomorrow at 11 a.m. for the final two games of a four series.
