Biola volleyball took care of business for a straight-sets win against Minot State on Friday night.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska --- Biola collected its first win of the 2025 season in decisive fashion Friday evening, sweeping Minot State (25–11, 25–22, 25–8) at the Seawolf Invitational.

The Eagles jumped out of the gates in set one with a dominant 7–0 start fueled by Juliana Van Ommering's serve and early kills from Madison Moore and Simi Kapustova. Biola kept the pressure on both at the net and from the service line, closing the frame 25–11 behind an ace from Bethany Bellfi and a late kill from Emma Fairbairn.

The second set proved the most competitive of the night. Minot rallied to trade points through the middle stages, but Biola leaned on newcomers Savannah Simpson and Ashlyn Beebe to provide timely kills off the bench. Moore and Hannah Hanson steadied the offense down the stretch, with Hanson setting and scoring late to help the Eagles edge out a 25–22 win.

Biola left no doubt in the third. Van Ommering again sparked a fast start, ripping two early aces as the Eagles raced to a 9–1 advantage. Moore finished the night strong with a team-best seven kills, while Simpson and Fairbairn added closing points in a 25–8 rout that sealed the sweep.

The box score reflected Biola's depth. Moore led with seven kills on a .353 hitting percentage, while Hanson paired five kills with 20 assists and four digs. Van Ommering added four kills, three aces, and four digs, and Vandertuig tallied four kills and three blocks. Simpson impressed off the bench with three kills, and a block assist, while Fairbairn contributed four kills on seven swings. Kapustova was efficient in limited action, posting two kills on three attempts with two block assists.

Defensively, libero Bri Bellfi collected two digs in her lone set, while Sophia Knevelbaard anchored serve receive with a team-high 14 digs across three frames. Collectively, Biola hit .255 as a team with 33 kills, seven aces, and seven blocks, while holding Minot State to a -.030 hitting percentage.

The victory moved Biola to 1-2 on the year, giving the Eagles momentum heading into their final match of the Seawolf Invitational on Saturday against Cal State San Marcos at 12:30 pm PT.
