Phelps Scores Hat Trick in Victory Over Westcliff

Briley Phelps led the Biola women’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Westcliff University Monday night at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA---Briley Phelps led the Biola women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Westcliff University Monday night at Al Barbour Field. Phelps played a part in all four of Biola's goals scored, recording the first hat trick of her collegiate career and assisting the goal she didn't score.

"I'm super excited for the team," stated Phelps. "It was a great win to get us going into PacWest play. I'm excited for the rest of the season."

Phelps' goals were netted in the 22nd, 61st and 75th minutes.

When Phelps was asked about the first goal she scored from midfield, she reflected, "I saw the keeper off her line so I decided to just go for it. Just one thing led to another and it was a super fun game."

Peyton Nelson and Marije Rechin also shined offensively against the Warriors.

Rechin scored the Eagles' second goal of the match in the 27th minute and went on to assist the last two goals.

Nelson tallied two assists against Westcliff on goals in the 22nd and 27th minutes.

Phelps, Nelson, Rechin and Taylin Laws recorded the full 90 against Westcliff.

Autum Monty and Laura Brennan split time in the goal. Monty totaled 62 minutes and made two saves. Brennan played the final 34 minutes against the Warriors.

Biola improves to 3-1-3 overall and begins PacWest Conference play on Thursday, October 2 at 4 p.m. against Jessup.
