Vandertuig, Biola Brings the Boom

18 kills from Kendall Vandertuig headlined another sweep for the Eagles.

LA MIRADA --- Biola volleyball made history Friday night inside Chase Gymnasium, recording its fifth-straight sweep with a 25–21, 25–22, 25–20 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills. The win marked the Eagles' longest sweep streak in the NCAA Division II era and the program's first time reaching five-straight since 2015.

From the opening set, Biola set the tone at the net. Vandertuig, Madison Moore, and Hannah Guzzetti delivered key kills during a 6–1 run that flipped a 14–14 tie into a late advantage. Vandertuig closed the door with back-to-back points to finish the frame 25–21.

Set two was tight throughout, featuring 14 ties and five lead changes. Biola pulled away late behind its block, with Guzzetti and Vandertuig teaming up for the clinching point in a 25–22 win.

The Eagles played their cleanest frame in the third, with Vandertuig hammering down six kills and Hanson adding timely points. A service ace from Hanson capped the 25–20 finish to seal the sweep.

Vandertuig turned in her best outing of the year, piling up 18 kills on a .395 attack percentage to go with eight digs and two blocks for 19.5 points. Moore added eight kills, Hanson contributed six kills and three aces along with 19 assists, and Guzzetti chipped in seven kills on a .417 clip. Bri Bellfi anchored the back row with 17 digs.

Afterward, Vandertuig credited both her teammates and the crowd for the record-setting performance. "That's the best we have played all season, even going back to last season," she said. "I feel like we came out firing. Our crowd was big and they played a big role in that and I think we came prepared and ready to win."

Biola will look to maintain the momentum, capping off the weekend at 3:00 pm on Saturday against Cal State Monterey Bay.
