Eagles Hold Tough Battle Against CUI

The second half spelled the difference, as Concordia overcame Biola on Saturday.

IRVINE, Calif. --- The finish of the 2025 regular season was one step closer on Saturday with a bout between Biola (9-16) and Concordia. The two teams traded blows but it was CUI (6-20) to pull ahead in the second half for a 14-10 finish.

The Eagles began the game looking pretty good with favorable scores in the first period.

Veralie Naranjo started strong with two goals in the opening quarter. A power play goal ended the period for a 3-2 lead through eight minutes.

The Eagles tacked on another three goals in the second period. Lizzy Birch cashed in first, before Naranjo and Ava LoBue went back-to-back after the halfway point.

CUI found their attack, as well, evening the game at six entering the halftime break.

Biola netted the first goal of the third quarter with eyes to take control of the contest. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles had other ideas. The host squad posted five-straight goals to surge ahead.

Three goals came across for BU again but the third quarter was for CUI, as they took a 12-9 lead before the fourth and final quarter.

It took six minutes for the Eagles to find the back of the net, as Naranjo scored the lone goal for BU in the final stanza.

The senior Naranjo led the scoring effort with four goals on Saturday. She added an assist and a steal for a stellar day.

LoBue was stout all around the pool for BU. The senior tallied two goals and an assist, while also adding a steal and two field blocks.

Biola will host its final regular season bout on Wednesday, facing Azusa Pacific at 7:30 pm.
