The regular season finale for Biola Women’s Water Polo saw a home battle against APU on Wednesday night.

LA MIRADA --- The Eagles (9-17) hosted Azusa Pacific (16-14) under the lights for their final regular season contest of 2025. The Wednesday night bout featured two strong offenses but it was the Cougars to pull ahead for a 15-9 final score.

The attack came from everywhere for the Biola squad on Wednesday. The team collected nine goals with six Eagles tallying a score and seven grabbing a score or an assist.

Three different Eagles recorded multiple goals including Christina Cervantes, Veralie Naranjo and Lizzy Birch. All three student-athletes posted three points with two goals and one assist for BU.

Alicia Fregoso and Chloe McKay split time in the cage for Biola. Fregoso took the first half with three saves and McKay competed in the second with five saves.

The game started with narrow margins with seven combined goals in the first quarter. APU went up by two after two and a half minutes but BU had an answer, knotting the game at three, before going into the second down by one.

The first three possessions for the Cougars in the second quarter created the separation with three goals for the visitors. BU battled back with back-to-back goals near the halfway mark of the stanza with scores from Birch and Stephanie Rodriguez.

A 4-1 third quarter opened up the game for APU, who owned a 13-7 lead, entering the final stanza. The two teams went even in the final eight minutes for the 15-9 finish.

The next challenge for BU is the WWPA Championships. The team will travel to West Virginia as the No. 1 seed out of the west region and will go straight to the semifinals round set for Saturday, April 26. On Friday April 25, the Eagles will battle UC Merced for a non-tournament match at 12:00 pm PT.
